Comp (Comparable Sale)

marketplace

A recently sold listing used to determine a card's current value.

A comp, short for comparable sale, is a recently completed transaction for the same or very similar card that serves as a reference point for establishing current market value. The concept is borrowed from real estate appraisal, where comparable property sales are used to determine a home’s worth. In the TCG world, comps are the raw data points that underpin market price calculations and individual pricing decisions.

Finding good comps requires matching as many variables as possible: the same card, same condition, same grading company and grade (if applicable), same edition, and ideally sold within a recent timeframe. A PSA 10 Base Set Charizard sold two weeks ago is a strong comp for pricing another PSA 10 Base Set Charizard today. A BGS 9 of the same card sold six months ago is a much weaker comp due to differences in both grading company and recency. The quality of your comps directly determines the accuracy of your pricing.

Collectors and traders who actively pull comps before buying or selling consistently make better financial decisions. CardDeckr streamlines this process by aggregating sold listings from eBay, TCGPlayer, and other marketplaces, making it easy to find relevant comps without manually searching each platform. Whether you are pricing a card for your marketplace listing or evaluating whether a deal is worth taking, having strong comps at your fingertips is invaluable.
