Mint
conditionA card in perfect condition with no visible flaws even under close inspection.
Mint (M) is the highest standard condition grade a trading card can receive outside of professional grading services. A Mint card exhibits absolutely no signs of wear, damage, or handling. When examined under magnification or bright light, the card shows no whitening along edges, no surface scratches, no print defects, and perfectly sharp corners. The card’s color and gloss remain as vibrant and consistent as the day it was printed.
Achieving and maintaining Mint condition is exceptionally difficult. Even the simple act of removing a card from a booster pack can introduce micro-scratches or edge contact that disqualifies it from Mint status. For this reason, true Mint cards are relatively rare on the secondary market, especially for older sets where cards have changed hands multiple times. Collectors seeking Mint cards often look for pack-fresh pulls that were immediately sleeved and stored.
In the marketplace, Mint condition commands a significant premium over lower grades. The difference in value between a Mint and Near Mint card can range from 20% to several hundred percent depending on the card’s rarity and desirability. When selling or buying, it is important to be honest and precise about condition, as Mint is frequently overused by casual sellers. If you are unsure whether your card qualifies as Mint, it is safer to list it as Near Mint to avoid disputes with buyers.
