PSA 9

grading

A PSA grade of 9, known as MINT, indicating a card with only one minor flaw — a superb example of a trading card.

A PSA 9 (MINT) grade represents a superb condition card that exhibits only one minor flaw. This is an excellent grade that sits just below the coveted PSA 10 Gem Mint, and many collectors actively seek PSA 9 cards as a more affordable alternative to perfect grades.

What PSA 9 Means

A PSA 9 card may exhibit just one of the following minor flaws:

  • Centering: Slightly off-center but within tight margins (approximately 60/40 or better on the front, 65/35 on the back)
  • Corners: One corner with a very minor touch of wear
  • Edges: A minor imperfection along one edge
  • Surface: One very minor print imperfection or surface blemish

The key distinction from PSA 8 is that a PSA 9 card can only have one minor flaw, whereas PSA 8 allows for a combination of minor flaws.

Market Value

PSA 9 cards typically trade at approximately 3x to 5x the raw card market value for modern cards. For vintage and highly sought-after cards, the multiplier can be significantly higher. PSA 9 represents the point where graded card premiums become substantial, making it an important threshold for card investors.

PSA 9 vs PSA 10

The price gap between PSA 9 and PSA 10 is often the largest jump across all grades. A PSA 10 can be worth 3x to 10x more than a PSA 9 of the same card, depending on population reports and demand. This makes PSA 9 an attractive option for collectors who want high-grade cards without paying top-tier premiums.
